Chew Wei Lun bagged the bronze at the 6th Fazza Boccia 2019 Championships held at the Shabab Al Ahli Club in Dubai earlier ths week.
The Malaysian was beaten 1-5 in the semi-finals of the Individual BC1 category by eventual champion Roh Youngjin but went on to defeat another Korean Ki Dohyun 3-2 for third place.
Boccia was originally designed to be played by people with cerebral palsy but now includes athletes with other severe disabilities affecting motor skills.
In a dramatic BC1 final, Youngjin, the Seoul Regional Championships gold medallist making his debut, rallied from behind to beat Indonesia’s Muhamad Syafa 4-3.
Trailing 1-3 until the last minute, the Korean got the better of Syafa on his last throw.
Another Malaysian, Chew Wei Lun was beaten 2-4 in the quarter-finals by Indonesian Felix Ardi Yudha in the Individual BC2 category.
In the BC2 final, Lee Yongjin stormed to a 5-1 win over Indonesian Felix Ardi Yudha to take the top honours.
The BC3 final was an all-Australian affair with Daniel Michel overcoming compatriot 3-2 Spencer Cotie for the title.
Ximei Lin claimed the gold for China, emerging the winner in BC4 final overcoming a fighting Jang Seongyuk of Korea 4-2 in the final.
