Three Malaysians, including newly crowned Asian Junior champion Justin Hoh, are through to the quarter-finals of the singles competition at the Bangladesh Junior International Series badminton championships in Dhaka, But, three others – Ong ZhenYi, Eogene Ewe Eon and Jack Chong Ee – were beaten by their opponents..
Zhen Yi found the going tough against top seed Meiraba Luwang of India 18-21, 12-21 while Eogene succumbed to a 17-21, 19-21 defeat at the hands of Arnick Plungvachira. Jack Chong came up against second seeded Prince, losing 9-2, 8-21.
Justin, who defeated Syed Saker Mohammad Sibgat Ullah 21-16, 21-12 in the second round, will play India’s R Vikash Prabhu in the last eight.
Also through to the quarter-finals is Muhammad Fazriq Mohammad Razif, who defeated Akib Solaiman of Bangladesh 21-13, 21-12. He will play India’s Gnana Harsha Jetty.
Ong Ken Yong will be up against Prince in his quarter-final match. Ken Yo thrashed Bangladeshi Md Abdul Hamid Lukman 21-4, 21-4 in his second round match.
Second seed Tan Zhing Yi is also through to the quarter-finals of the girls singles. She picked up an easy 21-5, 21-5 win over the hosts Urmi Borman. She plays Nasima Khatun in the quarter-finals.
Justin and partner Fazriq are into the quarter-finals after getting a bye in the first round. The top seeds play Pawut Arreechankit-Supreecha Preechasutthikul in the quarter-finals.
Two other Malaysian pairs – Beh Chun Meng-Goh Boon Zhe and Eogene-Zhen Yi – are also in the last eight
Chun Meng-Boon Zhe will play the Bangladesh pair of Gourab Singha-Mangal Singha in the quarter-finals. Eogene-Zhen Yi, have a much more difficult task as they will be up against second seeds Narut Saengkham-Pannawat Theerapanithum.
