Defending men’s jianshu champion Wong Weng Son missed out on the men’s chanquan gold by a mere 0.007 points at the World Wushu Championships in Shanghai today.
Weng Son, who hails from Negri Sembilan, managed to collect 9.656 points from his routine only to see Indonesian Marvelo Edgar Xavier walk away with the gold with a 9.663 routine.
Marvelo had won the silver in the event at the 2018 Asian Games and a bronze at the KL SEA Games.
The 26-year-old Weng Son is six years older than his rival but would have his work cut out in future regional competitions.
Korean Le Hasung took the bronze with 9.643 points.

World University Wushu champion Loh Choon How could only muster a bronze in the men’s taijiquan event in Shanghai.
The former SEA Games gold medallist was a silver medalist at the last World Taijiquan Championships in Bulgaria and would be disappointed with the bronze.
Like Weng Son, Choon How missed the silver in just 0.007 points. He scored 9.646 to Korean Yu Woonhee, who amassed 9.653 points.
Gold in the event went to China’s Cui Bi Hui, whose routine earned him a 9.713 score.

In the women’s daoshu event, Malaysia’s Loh Ying Ting finished a disappointing 10th with 8.880 points. Russia Sandra Konstantinova took the gold with 9.653 points.
Host China lead the medal table with five gold medals. Hong Kong is in second spot with a 1-3-1 haul while Malaysia in third with 1 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze.
