Malaysia crashed to their second defeat at THE FINA Water Polo Challengers’ Cup men’s tournament at the OCBC Aquatic Centre in Singapore.
The Malaysians, who had lost their opening match 5-20 to Singapore, were edged out 8-11 by the Philippines.
The Philippines have now won two matches after their opening lost to Ireland. They had defeated Zimbabwe in their second match.
It was another close tie between the Malaysia and the Philippines. The two teams last met at the KL SEA Games in 2017. Malaysia had then edged their rival 8-7, but were not able to maintain their form this time.
A second quarter blitz by the Philippines, put the match out of the Malaysians reach, when they scored goals five goals to lead 7-3.
Muammar Alamara top scored for the Philippines with five goals.
The win moves the Philippines to second spot in Group B behind Singapore. Both teams are level on four points but Singapore has a game in hand.
Indonesia top Group A after chalking up their third win with a 15-7 win over Hong Kong. The top teams fro both groups will qualify for the final.
