Malaysia are assured at least one title with two more in the offing at the Spanish International Badminton Championships in La Nucia.
The women’s singles title is assured with both Kisona Selvaduray and Goh Jin Wei getting past their semi-final opponents.
Also through to the finals are the men’s doubles pair of Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun and the mixed doubles pairing of Tee Wai Kun-Teoh Mei Xing.
The fourth seeded Kisona defeated Yaelle Hoyaux of France 21-18, 21-10 while Jin Wei defeated teammate Eoon Qi Xuan 21-17, 21-11.
The final between the duo will take place later tonight. Kisona, the reigning SEA Games champion is looking for her sixth international title and her first since 2019. As for Jin Wei, the former world junior champion, that she is on the comeback trail after a long layoff due to health reasons.
Both players have different reasons to win the final, Kisona to establish her growing stature while Jin Wei to show that she is back.
In the men’s doubles, Wei Chong-Kai Wun will play Lucas Corvee-Ronan Labar in the final after defeating the English pair of Matthew Clare-Ethan Leeuwen 21-11, 21-11 in the semi-finals.
Wai Kun-Teoh Mei Xing defeated Russian Rodion Kargaev-Viktoriia Vorobeva 21-17, 21-16 in their mixed doubles semi-finals. They will be up against third seeds Callum Hemming-Jessica Pugh of England in the final.
