The Olympic Truce draft resolution will be introduced to the United Nations (UN) General Assembly in New York next week.
In keeping with the tradition dating back to the original Olympic Games in Ancient Olympia in 776 BC, the resolution will aim to ensure a halt to all hostilities, allowing the safe passage and participation of athletes and spectators for the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020.
It will be formally submitted by the Government of Japan in close collaboration with the IOC, the International Paralympic Committee and the Organising Committee.
Tokyo 2020 President Yoshiro Mori will introduce it to the UN General Assembly with a speech, followed by discussions by the Member States and remarks by IOC President Thomas Bach.
Inspired by the Ancient Games, the IOC revived the Olympic Truce in 1992, and it is now introduced for each edition of the Games.
