
Malaysia’s hopes of advancing to the quarter-finals of the Men’s Squash World Team Championships was paid put by fifth seeds Germany.
Malaysia opted to start with Mohd Syafiq Kamil instead of Muhammad Addeen Idrakie Bahtiar in the opening string against Valentin Rapp, Rapp, ranked 144 in the world.
Rapp proved to be more than a match for the 87th ranked Syafid, winning the opening tie 11-7, 11-9, 12-10 in 49minutes.
Eain Yow Ng, playing in the second string, was up against world number six Simon Rosner and could not spring another surprise. Having beaten world number 10 Miguel Rodriguez of Colombia in the group tie, Eoin Yow found the going tough, losing 7-11, 6-11, 5-11 in 40 minutes.
German will now play top seeds and defending champions Egypt in the quarter-finals.
Wales produced a stunning upset as they ousted 6th seeds Hong Kong thanks to a mammoth five game win from Emyr Evans over Henry Leung. Both players were on court for 87 minutes before Evans scrapped through 11-8, 11-13, 12-14, 11-7, 11-7.
Joel Makin ensured a Welsh upset with a 46-minute 13-11, 11-4, 11-8 over Leo Au and quarter-final tie against Scotland.
In the other ties Spain ended Switzerland’s run with a 2-0 win and New Zealand came from one down to beat Oceanic rivals Australia 2-1.
Spain now face France while New Zealand meet England in the quarter-finals.
