Low Yeen Yuan-Valeree Siow continued their fairy tale run at the Slovenia International badminton championships in Maribor by clinching the women’s doubles title.
It was two in bag for the Malaysians as the the pairing of Chong Hon Jian-Toh Ee Wei also clinched the mixed doubles title for Malaysia.
It is their first international title for the Malaysian pair, who have just started playing in the senior ranks.
Yeen Yuan-Valeree upset third seeds Isabella Nielsen-Marie Louise Steffensen (Den) 21-11, 21-15 in the final to capture the title.
Earlier in the semi-finals, the pair defeated Ukranian duo of Mariia Stolerianko-Yelyzaveta Zharka 13-21, 21-13, 21-12. In the quarter-finals the day earlier the Malaysian duo had scalped second seeds Alzbeta Basova-Michaela Fuchsova in the quarter-finals.
Hon Jian-Ee Wei picked up a convincing 21-18, 21-18 win over Indonesians Muh Putra Erwiansyah-Sofy Al Mushira Asharunnisa in the men’s doubles final that lasted just 20 minutes.
It is the Malaysian pair’s second title of the year, having also won the polish Open in March.
It was quick work for the Malaysians, who overcame a late fightback in the second game from their rivals.
Earlier in the day, Hon Jian_Ee Wei overcame the Danish Swedish scratch pairing of Kristoffer Knudsen-Malena Norrman 23-21, 21-17 in the semi-finals.
The eighth seeded scratch pair had beaten top seeded Philip Barker-Katharina Hochmeir of Austria in the quarter-finals and were favoured to make the finals. But Hon Jian-Ee Wei after a close first game, edged out their rivals after a 31-minute battle.
