Third seed Didin Taresoh crashed out of the quarter-finals at the Spanish Para Badminton International in Cartegana but two other Malaysians – Cheah Liek Hou and Muhammad Ikhwan Ramli are through to the last four.
Didin was beaten for the second time this week by Englishman Isaak Dalglish in the men’s singles SH6 Classification quarter-finals. Dalglish, who had beaten Didin in the Group matches on Thursday, outplayed the Malaysian 21-18, 21-19 today.
It was a disappointing outing for Didin, who was a runner-up at the Dubai Para Badminton last month.
Liek Hou booked his place in the semi-final with a clinical 21-8, 21-11 win over Spaniard Pablo Serrano in the men’s singles SU5 Classification.
The top seeded Malaysia plays Meril Loquette of France for a place in the final. Loquette defeated Mark Modderman of the Netherlands 21-12, 21-10 in his quarter-final match-up.
Liek Hou, looking for his second title of the year, has beaten Loquette in all his previous four meetings prior to this. However, when the pair met last at the quarter-final stage of the 2019 Para Badminton World Championships, the match went the distance with Liek Hou coming back from a game down to win.
Japan’s Taiyo Imai is also through the last four in the classification when he edged past Taiwanese Fang Jen-yu 21-15, 18-21, 21-15.
Taiyo will play the winner of the last eight match between Turkey’s Ilker Tuzcu and second seeded Mroz Bartlomeij, in the semi-finals.
Ikhwan repeated his mastery over Frenchman David Toupe in the quarter-finals of the men’s singles WH1 classification.
Ikhwan, who had defeated Toupe for the Dubai Para Badminton International last month, clinched a 21-13, 21-15 win in Cartegana to book his last four spot.
He will play second seeded Lee Samseop of Korea in the semi-finals. Ikhwan will be hoping for third time lucky as he had lost in both of his previous meeting against his Korean rival.
Ikhwan was beaten in straight games by Samseop at the Thailand Para Badminton International semi-finals two years ago, but managed to steal a game when they met again at the Brazil Para badminton International last year.
The other semi-finals will see top seeded Lee Dongseop takin on German’s Thomas Wandschneider.
