
Tan Cheong Min clinched Malaysia’s second gold at the World Wushu Championships in Shanghai.
Cheong Min was crowned as the world nandao champion with a classy routine that earned her 9.610 points.Cheong Min was a silver medallist in the event at the last world championships in Kazan two years ago.
It was the Melaka-born exponents second medal at the championships. She grabbed a silver in the nanquan event on the opening day, finishing behind China’s Tang Lu.
Tang Lu, who was also down in the nandao event, defaulted in her routine and ended up without any score.
Cheong Min finished well ahead of Iran’s Hanieh Rajabi (9.490) and Uzbeskitan’s Darya Latisheva (9.483) in the nandao competition.
It was the first individual gold for Cheong Min, who also won the Duilian gold medal at the last championships together with Loh Ying Ting and Phoon Eyin.

Earlier in the day, Sydney Chin finished ninth in the women’s taijiquan with 9.480 points while Chuah Shangyang finished sixth in the men’s nandao with 9.610 points.
In the women’s gunshu, Loh Ying Ting finished sixth with 9.493 points. Phoon Eyin also failed to shine as she finished 20th in the women’s changquan with 9.306 points.
Clement Ting Su Wei was a poor 23rd in the men’s gunshu with 9.243 points.
