The 2017 SEA Games bronze medallist, Malaysia avoided finishing last in their group at the FINA Water Polo Challengers’ Cup men’s tournament at the OCBC Aquatic Centre in Singapore.
Malaysia, who had lost all their previous matches including the 5-17 defeat to Ireland yesterday, beat Zimbabwe 21-8 in their final group match.
The win ensured that the Malaysians qualify for the seventh and eight placings.
Toh Yi Xiang Toh topscored for Malaysia with four goals.
The Malaysians will be up against India in the playoffs. India were beaten 7-17 by Austria in Group B. The Austrian are through to the finals and will meet the winners of the top of the table clash between Singapore and Ireland.
