Dubai will once again host the opening leg of the world para athletics Grand Prix next year. The city that successfully hosted the World Para Athletics Championships at the Dubai Club for People of Determination recently will host the Grand Prix from 14 to 17 March.
It would be the fourth consecutive year that the Fazza International Championships open the Grand Prix season.
Next year’s circuit is set to be one of the strongest to date as it would offer the world’s best Para athletes the chance to gauge their standards in the lead-up to the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. For many, it would also be the final opportunity to qualify for the Paralympics.
Head of World Para Athletics Haozhe Gao said: “We could not be more excited about the upcoming season after a successful World Championships. Many young talents who succeeded at Dubai 2019 had made their international debut at the Grand Prix.
“This has always been one of the main objectives of the Grand Prix; to provide a platform for the development of our sport across all regions.”
Sao Paulo is the second stop at the Brazilian Paralympic Training Centre from 26-28 March.
The Grand Prix then heads back to Asia with Beijing hosting the eighth China Open between 24 and 26 April at one of the training venues used for the Beijing 2008 Paralympics.
The Charlety Stadium in Paris, France, will receive the first of the three back-to-back European legs in May (6-8) followed by Jesolo, Italy (22-24) and Nottwil, Switzerland (28-30).
The Tunisian capital city of Tunis closes the season from 26-28 June at the 14th edition of the Tunis International Meeting, Africa’s biggest Para athletics competition of the year.
