Argentinian football club Estudiantes de La Plata returned to their home ground in spectacular style on Friday.
The club celebrated their return to the Luis Hirschi Stadium after a 14-year absence when they played Club Atletico Talleres in a Super Liga Clash.
The Luis Hirschi Stadium where the club played between 1907 and 2005 was closed closed due to safety concerns which forbid standing-only wooden stands.
The Argentinian club inaugurated their renovated home stadium by staging an incredible show with a giant flaming lion moving on the roof.
Renovation work on the stadium started in 2007, and met with opposition from several groups, notably the “Hoja de Tilo” NGO, who claimed that the works would damage the environmental balance of the park behind the stadium.
It was also a winning return for the club as a second minute goal from Manuel Castro helped them to 1-0 win over Atletico Talleres.
The club are currently lying seventh in the Super Liga points standings with 22 points after 13 matches, just three points behind league leaders Boca Juniors.
