The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has released
the shortlist for October’s Athlete of the Month, and fans can now vote for the
winner on www.paralympic.org.
The nominees are:
BARBARA MOSKAL, POL, SHOOTING
Stamped her name as the top vision impaired shooter when the category made its
Worlds debut at Sydney 2019. She dominated the standing category.
MANUELA SCHAER, SUI, ATHLETICS
Took her eighth consecutive Marathon Majors victory in the Chicago Marathon
less than a month after winning in Berlin.
OLEKSII DENYIUK, UKR, SHOOTING
Was the top pistol shooter at the 2019 World Championships in Sydney,
Australia, winning three medals including golds in P3 and P4. It was a big
improvement since the Championships a year ago when he reached all his finals
and made the top three.
OLIVER HOERAUF, GER, GOALBALL
Helped Germany secure their first European title by finishing as the team’s top
goal scorer with 19 strikes after beating Ukraine 6-2 in the final.
SHINGO KUNIEDA, JPN, WHEELCHAIR TENNIS
Produced a dominant display to beat two-time Wimbledon champion Stefan Olsson
in the inaugural men’s singles final on home soil at the Japan Open.
The public has until 12:00 (CEST) on Thursday (14 November) to vote for the
athlete they want to be the Athlete of the Month for October 2019 via the
International Paralympic Committee homepage.
The nominations are compiled from submissions by National Paralympic Committees
(NPCs) and International Federations (IFs).
The 2019 monthly winners so far are as follows:
January – Jeroen Kampschreur, NED, alpine skiing
February – Yujie Li, CHN, taekwondo
March – Lisa Bunschoten, NED, snowboard
April – Michael Roeger, AUS, athletics
May – Koji Sugeno, JPN, wheelchair tennis
June – Antoni Ponce, ESP, swimming
July – Silvia Biasi, ITA, sitting volleyball
August – Peter Pal Kiss, HUN, canoe
September – Alice Tai, GBR, swimming
